Frequently asked questions
Answered briefly, no small print.
How does 5finders work?
You report what was stolen: vehicle details, VIN or frame number, modifications, photos. The scene nearby sees your report. Whoever finds your vehicle or your parts gets the finder’s reward you set.
What can I report?
Complete vehicles and single parts: cars, motorbikes, campers, wheels, seats, exhaust systems, ECUs, spoilers, tools. You can also log things you have spotted.
What does it cost me?
Reporting and searching are free. We only keep a share of the finder’s reward when something actually comes back. No success, no fee.
When will the app launch?
We launch in Berlin in 2026 and open more cities after that. If you want to be early, drop us a line and we’ll get in touch.
Who can join?
Everyone. Whether you’re eighteen and wrenching on your first Golf or seventy and have looked after your classic for thirty years: car, bike, camper, scooter, trailer. Everyone from the scene is welcome. You don’t need a club, a membership or a particular vehicle.
What happens to my data?
Only what you choose to share in your report is visible: vehicle, features, photos and a rough radius. Your address, phone number and email stay private. We don’t sell data and don’t pass anything on to ad networks. Details are in the privacy policy.
Is a finder's reward even allowed?
For genuine lost property, German law provides a finder’s reward (five percent up to a value of 500 euros, three percent above). You may give more voluntarily. Theft is different: anyone who holds back your part and demands money is committing a crime. We never pay a finder’s reward for handing over stolen goods, and we are not legal advice.
And the police?
Theft should always be reported to the police. You add your case number to your report, which makes every tip solid. Never go to a handover alone, and if in doubt, don’t go at all. Then the police take over. We don’t replace a police report, we make sure lots of eyes are watching.
How do you protect against fraud?
Planned: verified accounts, communication only via chat instead of your phone number, the finder’s reward held in escrow and only paid out after the return, and every report can be flagged. The project is still being built. If you spot a gap, write to us, that helps more than any concept paper.
How do I reach support?
For questions about the project and the tech, the best address is support@5finders.com. This automatically creates a ticket with its own case number, you get an instant confirmation and nothing gets lost. Just reply to that email and everything stays in the same case. For general questions, press or partnerships, info@5finders.com is the right address.
